There’s a reason why people say that the closer you look, the less you see. And it makes sense because you’re not looking at the broader picture, you’re focusing on the details. It’s good to have a balance of both. But when it comes to kitchen remodeling, you are too close to the situation and sometimes people need a reminder that it’s time to remodel their kitchen.
Even if you don’t notice these things in your kitchen right now, it is best if you start saving up for a kitchen remodeling project down the road because at some point, you’ll need it.
Let’s get into it!
Your Cabinets Are Falling Apart
Oh is this a big one!
The moment you start seeing the handles come off your kitchen cabinets, or the color is starting to wear off, you know it’s time to change those things. You don’t want to go through an entire remodel, but you have to make sure that those handles and discolorations are taken care of. It’s just not a good look for your kitchen.
This usually starts to happen after a year or two after installing new cabinets. But it could also happen quicker if you are a rough user. This is the reason why I recommend that everyone should be gentle with their kitchen cabinets and make sure that they are clean at all times.
Because some oil spots here and there (if your cabinets are closer to your stove) start to accumulate and before you know it, the cabinet door is full of spots and starts looking like it had an acne breakout.
Make sure you wipe your cabinets off everyday before you wrap things up for the night, you’ll save a lot of money down the line.
You Don’t Invite Your Guest Into Your Kitchen
This is one of those signs that people don’t want to admit. Usually if people have a good looking kitchen, they like to show it off. And it makes sense because it’s a pride thing. They have invested their time and money into structuring their kitchen in a way that makes all their guests feel home. They enjoy spending time in that kitchen.
It doesn’t matter who you are, you know that your kitchen is one of the most important parts of your home. And if you start feeling uneasy when one of your guests enter your kitchen, you know it’s time to consider a remodel.
It doesn’t have to be an expensive remodel. Maybe your kitchen just needs a bit of a facelift and you’ll be alright with it. Who knows.
Or maybe your entire kitchen is starting to fall apart because you haven’t maintained it over the years. Well, now would be a good time to start investing in it because it definitely does affect how you feel.
You’re Starting to Feel Uneasy In There
If you like cooking and you feel uneasy when you’re cooking in your kitchen, you need to take that seriously. Because that might be the reason why you’re not cooking your best food yet.
Take a look at the kitchens of some of the best chefs out there. You’ll notice that their kitchens look amazing, almost close to glamorous. But it also looks very functional so that it doesn’t hinder their efficiency.
You want to start thinking of yourself as a chef.
How would you like to have your kitchen designed so that you make sure that you’re having a great time in there each and every day? What things would you change so that you are more efficient at cooking the best dishes you can?
Make a list of those things and prioritize them.
If you think that your stove needs to be in the center of the kitchen and right now it’s in a corner, maybe that’s why you feel like you’re cooped up in your kitchen. You feel that it’s too small. Moving your stove in the center would make you feel like the whole place is bigger and you can use more space.
It all depends on your personal tastes and how you would like things to be.
Once you make a list and prioritize them, you can then decide how much money you want to spend on your kitchen remodel.
Your Appliances Are Starting to Fall Apart
Oh man this is a telling sign that you need to buy new appliances and that you should also be spending a bit of money here and there to maintain everything else in your kitchen.
Remember, your appliances in the kitchen are the lifeblood of everything you do in there. Once your appliances start falling apart, you know you’re not going to cook your best food in there (you might have already noticed that I’m a big foodie lol). And here’s what I think – if you’re going to cook food, you might as well take the extra steps and cook the best food you can. Why not?
Having your appliances in good condition is step 1 to cooking great food.
Get that fixed and then you can move on to fixing other things in your kitchen.
Your Prospective Buyers Aren’t Satisfied With Your Kitchen
If you’ve been trying to sell your house, you know this will be a tough one to hear. But this might be on the reasons why you’re not able to sell your house at the price you want to.
Your buyers are checking out all your other rooms and they love it. They like how you’ve maintained everything and so they can just move in and get things rolling. But once they take a look at your kitchen, suddenly you see their facial expressions change. They are double checking with their wife or husband on whether or not they like the kitchen. And if they would change anything about your kitchen.
From a buyer’s perspective, if you don’t have a good kitchen and I have to remodel it after purchasing the house, then that’s an additional $10-20k depending on the scope of the remodel. I have to consider that into my budget before I move forward with the purchase.
So if another house has a better kitchen than yours. Then that means I won’t have to spend that extra 10 or 20 grand.
And you might be losing your deals just because of those 10 grand.
You should also ask your real estate agent about this before you remodel your kitchen. See if they think it will help you sell quicker. If it will, then I think it is worth investing in remodeling your kitchen and getting that resolved.
